Reflections on October 7th and 8th

And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.

Quran 2:191

Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.

Quran 2:216

Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath Allah promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,-

Quran 4:95

But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Quran 9:5

Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Quran 9:29

The Day of Judgment will not come until Muslims fight the Jews, when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say, 'O Muslim, O servant of God, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.' Only the Gharkad tree would not do that, because it is one of the trees of the Jews.

The above lines from the Islamic canon are not remotely exhaustive. On the contrary, it is exhausting trying to choose between a seemingly endless list of verses which preach violence. The inconvenient truth is that the most violent Jihadists cite these and numerous other verses over and over again in justification for their actions. Yet inevitably, we'll hear from Western apologists telling us that this or that atrocity "has nothing to do with Islam".

The last verse I cited is a famous hadeeth (a saying attributed to Muhammad), which is recited endlessly by Jihadists. Hamas included it in their original charter from 1988.

I write all this to say that it is inevitable that there will be more 10/7s. There will be more 9/11s. There will be more 7/7s, more Bataclans, more Fort Hoods, more Orlandos, more Hotel Mumbais, more San Bernardinos, and... I think you get it.

10/7 was a horror show, and I fully admit that I underestimated the military capacity of Hamas. They're not limited to launching rockets in the air and hoping they do damage. And we have no alternative but to prepare for the next 10/7, even if Israel were to end the occupation of the West Bank tomorrow. I have advocated for a two-state solution and the end of the occupation for over 30 years, so I know something about this effort and its limitations.

Ultimately, there has to be a critical mass of the world's 2 billion Muslims who are willing to stand up and say, "No more", and *enforce* an end to Jihadism. Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath. The texts cannot be changed. The example of Muhammad cannot be changed. The only thing that can change here is the willingness of Muslims to refer to such scriptural justification for violence.

But there is something that absolutely *can* change, and that is the willingness of non-Muslims to serve as "useful idiots" for Islamists. 10/8 was in many ways even more horrific than 10/7. To see thousands of our so-called "best and brightest" lining up to blame the rape, mutilation, torture, and murder of 1200 Israelis on Israel, the day after the atrocity, before Israel had taken any military action, did not have to happen. It happened because of willful ignorance. It happened because our Far Left, just like the Far Right, relies on simplistic narratives to understand a very complex reality. They don't have the patience to read history. They don't have any desire to read scripture. They really believed that they were standing up for the Palestinian people. Most, however, seemed completely oblivious to the fact that they were actually standing up for Islamic terrorism.

10/8 marked the end of my patience. It signified, as if we didn't know it before, that we have an information war that needs to be fought and won. It meant that it is up to us to hold Al-Jazeera, Islamist propagandists, and Muslim apologists accountable for spewing lies and disinformation. It meant that we have to stop tolerating the intolerable.

What gives me hope? The ex-Muslims of the world who endure endless hate to tell the truth. The Muslim reformers who are trying to change their faith while refusing to pretend that Islamic violence is merely a product of "Western Imperialism, Colonialism, and Zionism". There are those among them who are brave enough to tell the truth about the Islamic Conquests, Arab Colonialism, and the expulsion of a million Jews from Muslim-majority lands. There are Muslim and ex-Muslim women who are struggling to tell their stories and refusing to have their voices drowned out by Western "feminists" and "progressives" insisting that the hijab represents "female empowerment".

It's going to be a long war. I salute those who are willing to speak the truth.
