Michael, thank you 🫶
Listening to the episode with Michael Gamal. Two quick thoughts: 1) I recently learned that Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) was founded by a non-Jew, which- although I never fully believed the name anyway based on the content of what they say/do- changes the entire picture for me, and 2) this idea of suicidal altruism is important to deconstruct too. Yasmine, as usual, has a way with words and used the word “hacked” to describe what has happened in the Western mind. I am not an expert on Western ideology, but I do know that this is not a Jewish value, and the only thing I can think of is that maybe it’s a Christian concept? Since 10/7 I’ve become fascinated with the idea of the story of the binding of Isaac in the Torah, which I now understand to be a clear lesson AGAINST human sacrifice as an ideal. Thank you thank you THANK YOU as always to Yasmine (and Sarah!) for spreading the light!!!

There is no notion of altruist suicidal in christianism as far as I know. The notion of sacrifice one self, is related with the situation were the choice is between sacrifice oneself and letting other die, it is to choose to be killed by other (not by oneself, and not as holocaust to a God) in order to save the life of other. according to the grand rabbin Cohn, Jesus choosed to be kill in order not to lie and that the people of Israel should not be repress by Roman army because he would have been taken for the "King of the Jews".
