Question and Thank You to Layla Alsheikh
Question to Layla Alsheikh,
Thank you Layla Alsheikh to have encourage me to ask you the question that I think was difficult to ask during the podcats for Youtube. I still do not know if it is a good idea to answer to my interrogation, so I would not mind if you do not.
( please excuse the length of my presentation of my question, but I think they are necessary to let it be exactly understood)
First, I want to precise, that I am jew, “Israelophile”, and I believe that it has no meaning to be jew if one is “against” other human being, so of course I am not “against” arabs, palestinians. Also, I strongly think, that I do not know enough to have an serious opinion about what is happening in Israel – ( I even never travel to Israel or any country of middle east, I do not speak Hebrew nor Arabic, I not a military - )... And I also think that even if I had an opinion, I would not have any right to tell it, as I do not live in Israel, so I would not directly have to support the consequences of “my” proposition.
Of course I have some “ideas”, “impressions”, “certitudes” even, about what happens, but … I have much more questions about each of them, questions to wich I have no means personally to search an answer. Well, I live in the country of Descartes .. ( I have a few “certitudes” about Israel but .. I know they are not solid in fact)
So my question is about one aspect of the war, that I could study seriously enough.
I have also two things to expose before, in order to explain my question.
I think that, even under the worse conditions around them, even if they are completely unable to act as they would like, the human beings are always, at any moment, spiritually free, free to think about what they live, believe, and what they think. I also think that every book have two contents : his meaning, (what the book tells), and what it “shows”, and for me, all the books have read, “show” me that human are fundamentally alike.
That is why I think that to know the contents of the book is necessary to understand the state of minds of all the people who read them, (and may think that God wrote them), but what really concretely matters is what each human beings decide to do, and at any time of his or her life, a person is free to decide what he or she will (try to) do “from now on”.
So, I have taken time to study Islamic law, because, it is teached here in the faculty of law where I was, ( one course of comparative law) and because we have many classical books ( Ibn Katir, Ibn Ishraq …) and book of professors from Islamic university, translated in french and sold in Paris. (When I have read the quran, and some of the manuals of usul al Fiqh (in order to know how it is teached by muslims believers) , I fell tears inside, I fell anxiety for all people who are told that they “are” muslims … )
And I cannot see how, for the people who do not authorise them self to have in interpretation of the texts that would be to much “distant” from the clear verses and hadiths, it would be possible to accept peace and real friendship with non muslims and especially jews. The fact to have known the idea of God through Islamic sacred books, is not an obstacle for peace, the fact to name God in arabic, is not an obstacle, but the opinion, the certitude, that God speaks in the Quran, appears for me as an enormous difficulty, (except for those who feel free to have interpretations which are really logically far from the explicit content of the books, because they feel sure that theyr interpretation is really the true message of God), (the fear of the fire of hell is terrible for many )...
So this is what worries me. I believe that until people distance themselves very much if not totally, not from Allah but from Quran, there will be no peace in Middle East between people remaining of different religions or religious origins.
That is also why I think that the work to speak to each persons , one by one, may be more important for peace that political “solutions”, because the conditions, the bases of any peace, is in the minds, in the religious certitudes, wich may evolve only by personal reflections, with the help of discussions between persons.
I would like to know what you think about this view of the situation ..
Thank you very very much for telling that we are all descendants of Adam [ Ish and Isha ], and made to live and love !
Sincerely
Agnes Roukline
PS :
I copy here the french song from Reggiani “ il suffirait de pas grand chose”, because when I read the Quran and others Islamic books, I thought that they “show” that “not much would be enough” in order to live in peace :
